Mr Garland asked the Prime Minister, upon notice:

(1)   With reference to my question of 2 May 1973 concerning at least 6 Yugoslavs deported to Yugoslavia, did he reply that the information I requested was to be found in the Senate Hansard of the day before (Hansard, page 1553).

(2)   If so, would he point out exactly where this information appears in the Senate Hansard.

(3)   If it does not appear in the Senate Hansard, will he supply the answer to the question I asked.

Mr Whitlam - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1)   Yes.

(2)   and (3) I had in mind the information provided by the Minister for Immigration in Senate Hansard, pages 1202-3 concerning persons deported from Australia or under process of deportation. I am now informed that, during the period 3 December 1972 to 31 May 1973, eight Yugoslav nationals were deported to Yugoslavia. None of these was an Australian citizen and all were criminal deportees. (None was deported on account of involvement in terrorist activities.) In the circumstances, the inquiries you suggest on behalf of the deportees would not be justified.
