Mr SPEAKER -I have received the following message from the Senate:

Mr Speaker,

The Senate having considered Message No. 22 of the House of Representatives has agreed to the following resolution in connection therewith, viz.:

(1)   That the Senate concurs in the Resolution transmitted to the Senate by Message No. 22 of the House of Representatives relating to the appointment of a Joint Committee to examine and report on Certain Matters Relating to Prices, subject to the following modifications -

(a)   paragraph (1), sub-paragraph (a), after the words 'private industry' add 'and by the public sector',

(b)   paragraph (1), sub-paragraph (b), after the words 'private industry' add 'and the public sector',

(c)   paragraph (2), at end of paragraph add 'and one Senator nominated by the Leader of the Australian Country Party in the Senate*.

(2)   That the provisions of that Resolution, so far as they are inconsistent with the Standing Orders, have effect notwithstanding anything contained in the Standing Orders.

The Senate requests the concurrence of the House of Representatives in the Senate's modifications of the Resolution transmitted to the Senate by the House.

Motion (by Mr Crean) agreed to:

That the message be taken into consideration forthwith.
