Mr Lynch asked the Minister for Labour, upon notice:

(1)   How many people were counselled by the Vocational Guidance Service during 1972.

(2)   Of this number, how many were (a) metropolitan residents, (b) country residents, (c) 17 years of age and. under, (d) 18 to 20 years of age, (e) 21 years of age and over, (f) males and (g) females.

(3)   How many vocational guidance units are there and where are they stationed.

(4)   How many vocational guidance units are planned for 1973.


Mr Clyde Cameron (HINDMARSH, SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows: .

(1)   19,581 people were counselled by the Vocational Guidance Service during 1972.

(2)   (a) Metropolitan residents . . . . 15,604

(b)   Country residents .. 3,977

(c)   17 years of age and under .. 12,589

(d)   18 to 20 years of age .. 3,131

(e)   21 years of age and over .. 3,861

(f)   Males...... 12,454

(g)   Females . . 7,127 {3) The Department has 10 vocational guidance units located at:

Sydney

Melbourne, Camberwell

Brisbane, Townsville

Adelaide

Perth

Hobart, Launceston

Canberra

(4)   Units at Townsville and Launceston are being upgraded, a new unit will be opened in Darwin, and considerable expansion to other centres is planned.
