Mr HANSEN (WIDE BAY, QUEENSLAND) - I refer the Minister for Social Services to the non-recognition as dependants of student children over 16 years of age of recipients of unemployment and sickness benefits, which the Minister confirms has been the case since the original Act was passed in 1942. I ask the Minister: Has the school leaving age in any of the Australian States been raised since 1942? Does he agree that there are now many more children over 16 years of age who are full time students as compared with 1942?

Mr WENTWORTH (MACKELLAR, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for Social Services) - The answer to both the honourable member's questions is yes.
