Dr Everingham asked the Treasurer, upon notice:

(1)   Is production in excess of market demand in almost every primary and secondary industry in Australia.

(2)   If so, does the Government expect increased production resulting from increasing efficiency and productivity to reduce cost and price inflation.

Mr McMahon - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows: (1.) No. While it is true that production may be in excess of demand in certain sectors of primary industry, it is certainly not true generally. There is little to indicate excessive production in other branches of industry.
