Mr JOSEPH COOK (PARRAMATTA, NEW SOUTH WALES) . - I doubt the wisdom of providing for a brand of blended spirit which will be neither blended brandy nor blended whisky. I think that the Government imprimatur should be confined to articles which are pure.

Mr Deakin - The Bill will deal with the question of labelling. This is only the schedule.

Mr JOSEPH COOK (PARRAMATTA, NEW SOUTH WALES) - We know that there is a distinction between grape spirit and spirit distilled from other materials, but we do not know of any chemical difference between grain spirit, molasses spirit, and other spirit than grape spirit.

Mr Page - Why should the Government brand be given to ,any spirit ?

Mr JOSEPH COOK (PARRAMATTA, NEW SOUTH WALES) - We have decided that the best spirit shall be labelled pure grape spirit, and I think that that is as far as we need go. My present* inclination is to vote against the proposal, leaving all other spirit to go as n.e.i.
