Mr GROOM (DARLING DOWNS, QUEENSLAND) (Minister for Home Affairs) - There is a Bill before the House providing for the transference to the Commonwealth of the Meteorological Departments of the States. Competent authorities are very strongly of opinion that the Departments of Astronomy and Meteorology should be kept distinct, and, therefore, it is contemplated by the Bill to take over only the Meteorological Departments of the States.
