     8 Migration (Validation of Port Appointment) Bill 2018

The order of the day having been read for the resumption of the debate on the question—That the bill be now read a second time—

Debate resumed by Mr Neumann who moved, as an amendment—That all words after “That” be omitted with a view to substituting the following words:

“whilst not declining to give the bill a second reading, the House notes the frequency of poor drafting of legislation and associated instruments in matters relating to immigration by successive Coalition Governments, and the resulting unintended consequences”.

Debate ensued.

Amendment negatived.

Question—That the bill be now read a second time—put.

The House divided and only Mr Bandt, Ms McGowan and Mr Wilkie voting “No”, the Second Deputy Speaker (Mr R. G. Mitchell) declared the question resolved in the affirmative.

Bill read a second time.

Leave granted for third reading to be moved immediately.

On the motion of Ms O’Dwyer (Minister for Revenue and Financial Services), the bill was read a third time.
