1 M eeting of Senate: The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment. The President (Senator the Honourable Sir Alister McMullin) took the Chair.

4 U nited States R efusal to P ermit E ntry of Consignment of Meat—M inisterial Statement: The Minister for Repatriation (Senator McKellar), by leave, made a statement relating to the refusal of the United States of America to grant entry to a consignment of meat carried by the vessel City o f Brisbane.

5 Viscount Bruce— M emorial Service—M inisterial Statement: The Minister for Supply (Senator Anderson), by leave, made a statement informing Senators that a memorial service for the late Viscount Bruce would be held in Canberra on 20 March 1968, and that in the course of the service the R.A.A.F. would give effect to the request contained in his will that his ashes be scattered over Canberra.

6 G overnor-G eneral’s O pening Speech—A ddress-in-R eply : Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion by Senator Laucke—That the following Address- in-Reply be agreed to : To His Excellency the Governor-General

M ay it P lease Your Excellency— We, the Senate of the Commonwealth of Australia in Parliament assembled, desire to express our loyalty to our Most Gracious Sovereign, and to thank Your Excellency for the Speech which you have been pleased to address to Parliament. Debate resumed. Ordered—That the debate be adjourned till the next day of sitting, and that Senator Sim

have leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.
