C ollege of A dvanced E ducation, C anberra—R eport of Committee of E nquiry—M inisterial Statement.—The Minister for Works (Senator Gorton) laid upon the Table the following Paper, by Command of His Excellency the Governor-General— Advanced Education—Report of the Committee of Enquiry into the Need for a College of Advanced

Education in the Australian Capital Territory, dated 2nd June, 1966. Senator Gorton, by leave, made a statement in connexion with the Report. Senator Tangney moved, by leave—That the Senate take note of the Report. Ordered—That the debate be adjourned till the next day of sitting and that Senator Tangney have leave to

continue her speech on the resumption of the debate.

6. A ir N avigation (Charges) Bill 1966.—Message from the House o f Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read— M r . President, Message N o. 323.

15. P articulars of P roposed E xpenditure 1966-67—P apers.—The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the further consideration of proposed expenditure for the year 1966-67.

In the Committee.

The Committee took note of the proposed expenditure in relation to the following Divisions— 400-433 Prime Minister’s Department, $60,752,000; and 944-946 „ „ „ , $7,002,000 (after debate).

Ordered—That consideration of intervening Divisions be postponed until after the consideration of proposed expenditure for the Attorney-General’s Department and the Department of External Affairs. The Committee took note of the proposed expenditure in relation to the following Divisions— 115-129 Attorney-General’s Department, $10,526,000 (after debate).

165-238 Department of External Affairs, $38,060,000; 910-912 „ „ „ „ , $966,000; and

795 Economic and Defence Support Assistance to members of SEATO and Protocol States, $2,000,000 (after debate). Ordered—That consideration of intervening Divisions be postponed until after the consideration of proposed expenditure for the Department of Defence and the Department of Territories. The Committee took note of the proposed expenditure in relation to the following Divisions—

And it being 11.30 p.m.—The Chairman of Committees (Senator Drake-Brockman), under Sessional Order, put the Question—That he do leave the Chair and report to the Senate. Question—resolved in the affirmative.

The President resumed the Chair; and Senator Drake-Brockman reported accordingly.

16. Adjournment.—The President, under Sessional Order, put the Question—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—resolved in the affirmative. The Senate adjourned at seventeen minutes to twelve o’clock midnight till to-morrow at a quarter-past

two p.m.
