1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at ten a.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable Sir Alister McMullin) took the Chair.

4. Papers.—The following Paper was presented, by Command of His Excellency the Governor-General— Post Office—Financial Report, for year 1965-66.
The following Papers were presented, pursuant to Statute— Broadcasting and Television Act—Eighteenth Annual Report of the Australian Broadcasting Control Board, together with the financial statement and the Auditor-General’s Report thereon, for year 1965-66.
Cattle and Beef Research Act—Sixth Annual Report of the Australian. Cattle and Beef Research Committee, for year 1965-66.
Public Service Arbitration Act—Determinations by the Arbitrator—1966— No. 215—Professional Officers’ Association, Commonwealth Public Service; and Association of Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and Draughtsmen of Australia. No. 220—Amalgamated Postal Workers’ Union of Australia. No. 221—Australian Broadcasting Commission Staff Association. No. 227—Federated Clerks’ Union of Australia. 5. Joint Committee of P ublic Accounts—Report.—Senator Wedgwood brought up the following Report from the Joint Committee of Public Accounts— Eighty-fourth Report—Expenditure from Consolidated Revenue Fund for the year 1965-66. Ordered to be printed. Senator Wedgwood, by leave, made a statement in connexion with the Report.
6. Public Service Bill 1966.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That this Bill be now read a second time. Debate resumed. Question—put and passed. Bill read a second time. The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of the Bill.

Clauses 1 to 6, by leave, taken together and agreed to. Clause 7 agreed to. Senator Willesee moved an amendment, viz.—Page 4, after clause 7, insert the following new clause— “ 7a. Section 30 of the Principal Act is amended by adding at the end of sub-section (2.) the
words ‘, but in prescribing such salaries no variation in salary shall be prescribed solely because of the sex of the occupant of any position ’ ” . Debate ensued. F.12755/66.

Debate ensued. Amendment negatived. Qause 28 agreed to. Remainder of the Bill, by leave, taken as a whole and agreed to.
Bill to be reported without amendment.
The Deputy-President resumed the Chair; and the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator Wedgwood) reported accordingly.
On the motion of the Minister for Works (Senator Gorton) the Report from the Committee was adopted, and the Bill read a third time.
7. Precedence to G overnment Business.—Ordered—That Government Business take precedence of General Business after eight p.m. this sitting.

8. P articulars of Proposed E xpenditure 1966-67—Papers.—The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the further consideration of proposed expenditure for the year 1966-67.
In the Committee.
Ordered—That further consideration of the proposed expenditure for the Department of the Army and consideration of intervening Divisions be postponed until after consideration of proposed expenditure for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, the Department of National Development and the Department of Labour and National Service.
The Committee took note of the proposed expenditure in relation to the following Divisions— 150 Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, $28,720,000; and 905 â â â â â â $1,292,000 (after
further debate).
340-351 Department of National Development, $31,168,000; and 932-934A â â â â $47,492,000 (after debate).
330-334 Department of Labour and National Service, $8,649,000; 800 Administration of the National Service Act, $949,000; and 801 Post Discharge Resettlement Training, $2,000 (after debate). Ordered—That consideration of intervening Divisions be postponed until after consideration of proposed expenditure for the Prime Minister’s Department. Divisions 400-433 Prime Minister’s Department, $60,752,000; and Divisions 944-946 â â â $7,002,000.
Question proposed—That the Committee take note of the proposed expenditure. Debate ensued.
And it being 11.30 p.m.—The Chairman of Committees (Senator Drake-Brockman), under Sessional Order, put the Question—That he do leave the Chair and report to the Senate. Question—resolved in the affirmative.
The President resumed the Chair; and Senator Drake-Brockman reported accordingly.
9. Adjournment.—The President, under Sessional Order, put the Question—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—resolved in the affirmative. The Senate adjourned at five minutes to twelve o’clock midnight till Tuesday next at three p.m.
