1. M eeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable Sir Alister McMullin) took the Chair.

2. PRAYERS.

4. Papers.—The following Papers were presented, by Command of His Excellency the Governor-General— Treasury Information Bulletin— National Accounting Estimates of Public Authority Receipts and Expenditure—Supplements, August and December, 1965.

Private Overseas Investment in Australia—Supplement, May, 1965. Projections of the Work-Force—Supplement, April, 1965. The Australian Balance of Payments—Supplement, February, 1966. The following Papers were presented, pursuant to Statute—

Banking Act—Regulations—Statutory Rules 1966, No. 69. Customs Act—Regulations—Statutory Rules 1966, No. 70. Lands Acquisition Act—Land acquired for Post Office purposes— Bundaleer North, South Australia.

5. P ostponement.—Ordered—That Orders of the Day Nos. 2 and 3, Government Business, be postponed until after the consideration of Orders of the Day Nos. 4 and 5.

6. A ustralian Coastal Sh ippin g Commission Bill 1966.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That this Bill be now read a second time. Debate resumed. Question—put and passed. Bill read a second time.

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of the Bill.

In the Committee.

Bill, by leave, taken as a whole, and agreed to, after debate. Bill to be reported without amendment.

The President resumed the Chair; and the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator Laught) reported accordingly. On the motion of the Minister for Customs and Excise (Senator Anderson) the Report from the Committee was adopted, and the Bill read a third time.

7. Softwood P lanting in Australia—M inisterial Statement—P aper.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion by the Minister for Customs and Excise (Senator Anderson), viz.— That the Senate take note of the Paper. Debate resumed. Senator Webster addressing the Chair—

8. A djournment.—The President, under Sessional Order, put the Question—That the Senate do now adjourn. Question—resolved in the affirmative. The Senate adjourned at half-past ten p.m. till to-morrow at three p.m.
