1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable A. M. McMullin) took the Chair.

3. P etition.—Senator Anderson presented a petition, signed by 759 citizens, praying that action be taken to amend the Superannuation Act to rectify an alleged injustice. Petition received.

Address-in -Reply to the Governor-General' s Opening, Speech—Appointment to P resent.— The President informed the Senate he had ascertained that His Excellency the Governor-General would be pleased to receive the Address-in-Reply at Government House at a quarter , to four p.m. on Thursday next, 26th November. The President invited Senators to accompany him on the occasion. . â ,
7. Nationality and Citizenship Bill 1953.—The Minister for Shipping and Transport (Senator McLeay) moved, by leave—That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the Nationality and ' Citizenship Act 1948-1952. Question—put and passed. '
Bill presented, and on the motion of Senator McLeay read a first time. Suspension of Standing Orders.—Senator McLeay, pursuant to contingent notice, moved—That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent the Bill being passed through its remaining stages without delay. â . . ,

The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to amend the ‘ Sales Tax Assessment Act (No. 5) 1930-1939 ’ ”, in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate. "
