1. Meeting or Senate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable A. M. McMullin) took the Chair. .
2. PRAYERS. * _
3. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.
4. P apers.—The following Paper was presented, by Command of His Excellency the Governor-General— International Labour Organization—Statement in relation to the conventions and recommendations adopted, by the International Labour Conference at its Thirty-fourth Session, Geneva, June, 1951. The following Papers were presented, pursuant to Statute—
Public Service Act—Appointment—Department of Air—R. W. Murphy. War Service Homes Act—Supplemental Agreement, dated 17th September, 1953, between the Director of War Service Homes and the State of Western Australia, amending the Agreement entered into on 17th July, 1934.
5. Standing Orders Committee.—The President brought up the First Report from the Standing Orders Committee. ·
Ordered to be printed. On the motion of the Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan) the consideration of the Report was made an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
6. Wheat Marketing Bill 1953.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 247.
The House of Representatives transmits to the' Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to amend the ‘ Wheat Industry Stabilization Act 1948-1953 ’ ”, in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate. . Archie G. Cameron,

Suspension of Standing Orders.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan), pursuant to contingent notice, moved—That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent the Bill being passed through all its stages without delay. .
Question—put and passed. On the motion of the Minister for Shipping and Transport (Senator McLeay) the Bill was read a first time. Senator McLeay moved—That the Bill be now read a second time. ' -On the motion of Senator Sheehan the debate was adjourned. Ordered —That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for a later hour of the day.
7. Appropriation Bill 1953-54.—The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the further consideration of the Bill.
In the Committee.
Second Schedule further considered— To report progress and ask leave to sit again.
The Deputy-President- resumed the Chair ; and the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator Wood) reported that the Committee had further considered the Bill and had made progress, and asked leave to sit again. Ordered—That the Committee have leave to sit again on the next day of sitting.
8. Adjournment.—The Senate adjourned at three minutes past four p.m. till Tuesday next at three p.m.
9. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Arnold, Aylett, Byrne, Devlin, Grant, Harris and O’Byrne. -
