TUESDAY, 24th MARCH, 1953.

1. Meeting Of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m,, pursuant to adjournment.—The Deputy President (Senator G. J. Rankin) took the Chair. .

2. PRAYERS.

3. Death of the H onorable J. S. R osevear, M.P.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan), having referred with deep regret to the death of the Honorable J. S. Rosevear, M.P., which occurred on 21st March, moved, by leave— '

That the Senate expresses its deep regret at the death of the Honorable John Solomon Rosevear, Member of the House of Representatives for the Division of Dailey and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, places on record its appreciation of his long and meritorious public 'service, and tenders its sincere sympathy to his widow and members of his family in their

bereavement. ■

And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator McKenna), and supported by the Minister for Repatriation (Senator Cooper) and Senators Ashley and Amour— And all Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed.

4. Adjournment as Mark of R espect.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan) moved—That, as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased Member, the Senate do now adjourn. - i

Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at fourteen minutes past three p.m. till to-morrow at three p.m. .

5. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Armstrong, Arnold, Aylett, Benn, Brown, Byrne, Cooke, Cormack, Devlin (on leave), Finlay, Fraser (on leave), Grant, Hendrickson, Henty,. McCallum, Maher, Marriott, Mattner (on leave), Morrow, O’Byrne, Ryan (on leave), Seward, Spicer, Tate, Wedgwood, Willesee, Wood and Wordsworth.
