JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.
THURSDAY, 26th OCTOBER, 1950.
1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment,—The President (Senator the Honorable Gordon Brown) took the Chair.
2. PRAYERS.
3. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.
4. P apers.—The following Papers were presented, pursuant to StatuteĀ·.— Commonwealth Public Service Act—Appointments—Department— Health—L. W. Wheeldon. Works and Housing—H. C. Green.
5. P ostponement.—Ordered—That Order of the Day No. 1. General Business, be postponed until after the consideration of Orders of the Day Nos. 1 and 2, Government Business.
6. Supply Bill (No. 2) 1950-51.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question-That the Bill be now read a first time. Debate resumed. Ordered—That the debate be adjourned till a later hour of the day, and that Senator Vincent have
leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.
7. War P ensions Appropriation Bill 1950.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr . P resident, Message No. 32.
The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to grant and apply out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund a sum for War Pensions ”, in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate. 0. F. Adermann,

Suspension of Standing Orders.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan), pursuant to contingent notice, moved—That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent the Bill being passed through all its stages without delay. Question—put and passed. On the motion of the Minister for Social Services (Senator SpoOner) the Bill was read a first time. Senator Spooner moved—That the Bill be now read a second time. Debate ensued.
Question—put and passed. .
Bill read a second time. The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of the Bill.
In the Committee.
Bill, by leave, taken as a whole, and agreed to. Bill to be reported without amendment.
The President resumed the Chair ; and the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator Nash) reported accordingly. On the motion of Senator Spooner the Report from the Committee was adopted, and the Bill read a third time.
