1. Meetin g of Se n a t e.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable Gordon Brown) took the Chair.

3. R epatriation Ben efits for Overseas F orces—Min ister ia l Sta te m e n t .—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Cooper), by leave, made a statement setting out the decisions of the Government with regard to war pensions and other repatriation benefits to be provided for the naval, military and air forces and others at present serving overseas.
4. Pa p e r s.—The following Papers were presented, pursuant to Statute— Commonwealth Public Service Act—Appointments—Department of Works and Housing— N. I. Davey, D. W. Hancock. Dried Fruits Export Control Act—Twenty-sixth Annual Report of the Dried Fruits Control
Board, for year 1949-50, together with Statement by Minister regarding the operation of the Act. Lands Acquisition Act—Land acquired for—Postal purposes—Bathurst, New South Wales. Northern Territory (Administration) Act—Regulations—1950—No. 8 (Darwin Administration
Ordinance).
5. Ministeria l D u t ie s.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan), by leave, announced the following changes in the Ministry— Mr. Harrison to be Minister for the Interior. Mr. McBride to be Minister for Defence.
The Postmaster-General (Mr. Anthony) to be acting Minister for the Interior during the absence of Mr. Harrison from Australia.
6. P ostpon em en t .—Ordered— That Order of the Day No. 1, General Business, be postponed until after the consideration of Order of the Day No. 1, Government Business.
7. Su pply (Works and Ser v ices ) Bill (No. 2) 1950-51.—Message from the Home of Representatives.— The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P r e s id e n t , Message No. 31.
The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to grant and apply a sum out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the service of the year ending the thirtieth day of June. One thousand nine hundred atul fifty-one, for the purposes of Additions, New Works and other Services involving Capital Expenditure ”, in which it desires the concurrence of the
Senate.

Suspension of Standing Orders.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan), pursuant to contingent notice, moved—That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent the Bill being passed through all its stages without delay. Question—put and passed. On the motion of the Minister for Social Services (Senator Spooner) the Bill was read a first time. Senator Spooner moved—That the Bill be now read a second time.
On the motion of Senator Ashley the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
8. Supply Bill (No. 2) 1950-51.— Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question— That the Bill be now read a first time. Debate resumed.

9. Ad j o u r n m e n t .—The President, under Sessional Order, put the Question—That the Senate do now adjourn. Question—-resolved in the affirmative. â
