P ostponement of B usiness—Motion R uled out of Or d er.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan) moved—That Order of the Day No. 1, General Business, be postponed until after the consideration of Order of the Day No. 1, Government Business. Ruling of President.—The President ruled that as Order of the Day No. 1, General Business, was in
the charge of Senator McKenna, and this was a motion for postponement of business under Standing Order No. 74, only Senator McKenna could move it. Î

7. Commonwealth B ank Bill 1950.—The President directed the Clerk at the Table to call on Order of the Day No. 2, Government Business (Commonwealth Bank Bill 1950—Consideration in Committee of Message No. 26 of the House of Representatives).
Point of Order.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan) raised a point of order to ⢠the cfleet that the motion just passed merely suspended certain Standing Orders, and did not authorize the President to give an explicit direction to the Clerk.
Debate ensued on the point of order. Senator Ashley then moved—That the President, direct the Clerk to call on Order of the Day No. 2, Government Business. Question—put and passed.
The President again directed the Clerk to call on Order of the Day No. 2, Government Business.
And Order of the Day No. 2, Government Business, being called on accordingly— The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of Message No. 26 of the House of Representatives.

Reason read and adopted, as follows :— Reason of the Senate for still insisting on its Amendments— Because the proposal to vest control of the Commonwealth Bank in a Board the personnel of which will include persons who are not Officers of the Bank or of the Public Service of the Commonwealth is not in the national interest.
