1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable Gordon Brown) took the Chair.

2. PRAYERS.

3. Petrol—Ministerial Statement.—The Minister for Fuel, Shipping and Transport (Senator McLeay), by leave, made a statement with reference to the importation of petrol into Australia and its relation to dollar expenditure.

4. Motion for Adjournment, to Debate Matter of Urgency.—Senator McKenna, in order to discuss a matter of urgency, viz.—“ The failure of the Government in aspects of National Health, namely— (a) failure to provide pharmaceutical benefits, sickness and dental services for the people of

Australia whilst they continue to pay taxes for these purposes ; . (b) failure to take any material steps to promote national health ; (c) failure to inform the Parliament of its proposals (if any) in relation to the foregoing matters ” , moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till to-morrow at a quarter past three p.m. Debate ensued.
