1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable Gordon Brown) took the Chair.

Question R uled Out of Order—Objection to R uling.—Senator Wright proceeding to read an extract from a report of House of Commons proceedings in asking a question without notice— Ruling of President..—The President ruled that the reading of the extract as part of the question would not be in order. Dissent from President’s Ruling.—Senator Wright moved—That the ruling of the President be dissented
from. Debate forthwith adjourned to the next sitting day.
4. P ersonal E xplanation—Leave R efused.—Senator Wright asked leave of the Senate to make a personal explanation. Objection being raised, leave not granted. ' ·
5. P apers.—The following Papers were presented, pursuant to Statute— ,
Lands Acquisition Act -Land acquired for Postal purposes—Taverners Hill, New South Wales. Seat of Government (Administration) Act—Notice of-variation of plan of lay-out of City of Canberra and its environs, dated 4th May, 1950.
6. Leave of Absence.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan) moved, by leave— That leave of absence for four weeks be granted to Senator Simmonds on account of ill-health. Question—put and passed. â
7. Commonwealth Bank Bill 1950.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question— That the Bill be now read a second time. Debate resumed. Senator Clothier moved—That Senator Cooke be granted an extension of time for thirty minutes. Question—put. The Senate divided—

9. Adjournment.—The Minister for Fuel, Shipping and Transport (Senator McLeay) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at thirteen minutes past ten p.m. till Tuesday next at three p.m.
