1. Meeting oe Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.—The President (Senator the Honorable Gordon Brown) took the Chair. '

5. Ministerial Statement— Changes in Ministry.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan), by leave, announced changes in the administration as follows :— Mr. Casey to be Minister for National Development in addition to his portfolio as Minister for
Works and Housing. Senator McLeay to be Minister for Fuel, Shipping and Transport. Mr. Beale to be Minister for Supply. The following Departments had been abolished :—
Department of Post-war Reconstruction. Department of Information. Department of Supply and Development. Department of Shipping and Fuel. Department of Transport. The following new Departments had been established :—
Department of National Development. Department of Fuel, Shipping and Transport. Department of Supply. During the absence of the Minister for Defence (Mr. Eric J. Harrison), the Minister for the Interior
(Mr. McBride) would administer the Department of Defence. Ministerial Representation.— Senator O’Sullivan also announced the following arrangements for Ministerial representation :— In the Senate—

7. Governor-General’s Opening Speech- A ddress-in-Reply.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion (by Senator McCallum), viz.— That the following Address-in-Reply be agreed to :— â

May it please Your E xcellency—
We, the Senate of the Commonwealth of Australia in Parliament assembled, desire to express our loyalty to our Most Gracious Sovereign, and to thank Your Excellency for the Speech which you have been pleased to address to Parliament.
Debate resumed. Ordered -That the debate be adjourned till the next day of sitting, and that Senator Arnold have leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.
8. Adjournment .—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator O’Sullivan) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question put and passed. The Senate adjourned at twenty-four minutes past eleven p.m. till to-morrow at three p.m.
