1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

3. Governor-General’s Messages—Assent to Bills.—The following Messages from His Excellency the Governor-General were presented, and the same were read by the President:— GOWRIE, Governor-General. Message No. 33.
Proposed Laws intituled :— “ Appropriation Act 1942-43 " “ Appropriation (Works and Buildings) Act 1942-43 ” as finally passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth, having been presented to the Governor-General for the Royal Assent. His Excellency has, in the name and on behalf of His Majesty, assented to the said Laws.

Joint Meeting of Members of the Senate and of the House of Representatives—Secrecy of Proceedings.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings), by leave, moved—That a joint meeting of Members of the Senate and of the House of Representatives be convened, at 8 p.m. this day, for the purpose of discussing in secret the present war, and hearing confidential reports in relation thereto. Question—put and"passed.
6. Social Security—J oint Committee—Fifth Interim Report.—Senator Cooper brought up the Fifth Interim Report of the Joint Committee on Social Security, dated 8th October, 1942.

9. Statute of Westminster Adoption B ill 1942.—Message from Ike House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 171.
The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to remove Doubts as to the Validity of certain Commonwealth Legislation, to obviate Delays occurring in its Passage, and. to effect certain related purposes, by adopting certain Sections of the Statute of Westminster, 1931, as from the Commencement of the War between His Majesty the King and Germany ” , in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate.
