OF THE SENATE.
FRIDAY, 25th SEPTEMBER, 1942.
]. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at half-past ten a.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. Papers.—The following Papers were presented, pursuant to Statute— National Security Act—National Security (Rationing) Regulations—Orders—Nos. 1 to 12.
4. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.
5. Appropriation Bill 1942-43.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. President, Message No. 155.
The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to grant and apply out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund a sum for the service of the year ending the thirtieth day of June One thousand nine hundred and forty-three and to appropriate the Supplies granted by the Parliament for that year ", in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate.

Suspension of Standing and Sessional Orders.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Codings), pursuant to contingent notice, moved—That so much of the Standing and Sessional Orders be suspended as would prevent the Bill being passed through all its stages without delay. Question—put and passed. The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane) moved—That the Bill be now read a first time. Debate ensued. On the motion of Senator Gibson the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
6. Next Meeting of the Senate.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Codings) moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till Tuesday next at three p.m. Question—put and passed.
7. Adjournment.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Codings) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at eight minutes to four p.m. till Tuesday next at three p.m. .
8. Attendance.—Present, all the Member; except Senators Crawford, Foil, Spicer, and Wilson.
