1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

3. Rural I ndustries—J oint Committee—Fifth Progress Report.—Senator Uppill brought up the Fifth Progress Report from the Joint Committee on Rural Industries, dated 16th September, 1942— Ordered to be printed.

7. Estimates and Budget-Papers 1942-43.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion by the Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane), viz.—That the Papers be printed. Debate resumed. On the motion of Senator James McLachlan' the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
8. E ntertainments Tax Assessment Bill 1942.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 152.
The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to provide for the Imposition, Assessment and Collection of a Tax upon Payments for Admission to Entertainments ”, in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate. W. M. Nairn,
