4. Death of the Honorable J. H umk-Cook.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings), by leave, moved—That the Senate expresses its profound regret at the death of the Honorable James Newton- Haxt.on Hume-Cook, a former member of the Victorian and Commonwealth Parliaments, places on record its appreciation of his meritorious public service, and tenders its sincere sympathy to his
widow and children in their bereavement. And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator McLeav), and supported by Senators Gibson and Leckie— And all Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed.
5. Death of the Honorable R. B. Orchard.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings), by leave, moved— That the Senate exjrresses its deep regret at the death of the Honorable Richard Beaumont Orchard, C.B.E., a former member of the House of Representatives, places on record its appreciation of his meritorious public service, and tenders its sincere sympathy to his widow and children in their bereavement. And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator McLeay), and
supported by Senators Cooper and Darcey— And all Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed.
6. Ministerial Statement—Appointment of Sir Earle Page to Australian Advisory War Council.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings), by leave, informed the Senate that Sir Earle Page would act as a co-opted member of the Australian Advisory War Council, and would attend meetings of the War Cabinet when it was considered that his advice would be of value.
