1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

3. Broadcasting—J oint Committee.—The Postmaster-General (Senator Ashley), by leave, moved— That the time for bringing up the Report from the Joint Committee on Wireless Broadcasting, appointed on 3rd July, 1941, be extended for one month from 3rd April, 1942. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed.

4. 6. National Security (Coal Control) Regulations—Motion for Disallowance.—Senator McLeay, pursuant to notice, moved—That Regulation No. 27b of the National Security (Coal Control) Regulations issued under the National Security Act 1939-1940, and included in Statutory Rule No. 10 of 1942, be disallowed. Debate ensued.

And two hours having elapsed from the time fixed for the meeting of the Senate, the Order of the Day was called on. '

Postponement of Order of the Day.—Ordered—That the consideration of the Order of the Day be postponed until after the disposal of Business of the Senate, Notices of Motion Nos. 1 and 2.

Debate on motion for disallowance, of Regulation continued. Question—put. The Senate divided— Ayes, 16. Noes, 18.

7. National Security (Waterside Employment) Regulations—Motion for Disallowance.— Senator McLeay, pursuant to notice, moved—That Regulations numbered 5 and 15 of the National Security (Waterside Employment) Regulations issued under the National Security Act 1939-1940, and included in Statutory Rule No. 19 of 1942, be disallowed. Debate ensued.

Iborrfs taken dmen in the SenaU’ .— Senator McLeay having objected to certain words used by the Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane), the President directed the Clerk to take down such words. _ And the Clerk, having so done, read the words, by direction of the President., as follows :—

“ Regulation 15 does not prevent new members from joining or obtaining employment in the Permanent and Casual Wharf Labourers’ Union of Australia ”.

Debate on motion for disallowance of Regulation continued. Question—put.
