JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.
FRIDAY, 12th FEBRUARY, 1943.
1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. Paper.—The following Paper was presented, pursuant to Statute— Taxation Acts—Twenty-third Report of the Commissioner of Taxation, dated 1st November, 1942, together with Statistical Appendices.
4. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.
5. Defence (Citizen Military F orces) Bill 1943.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 174.
The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to authorize the Service of Members of the Citizen Military Forces in the South-Western Pacific Zone for the duration of the present war ”, in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate.

On the motion of the Minister for the Interior (Senator Ceilings) the Bill was read a first time, and the second reading made an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
6. P ostponement.—Ordered—That Notice of Motion No. 1, General Business, be postponed until after the consideration of Order of the Day No. 1, General Business.
7. National Security (Apple and P ear Acquisition) Regulations—Motion for Disallowance.— Senator Spicer, pursuant to notice, moved—That the National Security (Apple and Pear Acquisition) Regulations, as contained in Statutory Rule No. 14 of 1943, and made under the National ‘Security Act 1939-1940, be disallowed. On the motion of the.Minister for External Territories (Senator Fraser) the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
8. F inancial Statement, dated 11th F ebruary, 1943—Ministerial Statement.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion by the Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane), viz.—That the Paper be printed. On the motion of Senator McBride the debate was adjourned.
Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
9. National Security Bill 1943.—Senator McLeay, according to Order, moved—That the Bill be now read a second time. Debate ensued. On the motion of the Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane) the debate was adjourned.

10. Meat P rices—Ministerial Statement.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane), by leave, made a statement on the subject of the action proposed to be taken for the control of meat prices, following the disallowance by the Senate of the National Security (Australian Meat Industry Commission) Regulations. ,
11. Commonwealth Bank Bill 1942—R eport of J oint P arliamentary Committee.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane) laid on the Table the Report of the Parliamentary Committee appointed to consider the Bill to amend the Commonwealth Bank Act 1911-1932.
12. Adjournment.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. .
Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at thirty-two minutes past three p.m. till Wednesday next at three p.m.
13. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Crawford and Wilson (on leave).
