1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., in accordance with the terms of the Resolution of the Senate passed on 27th November, 1941.

7. Internationa], Affairs—War against Finland, Hungary, Rumania and J apan—Ministerial Statement.—The Postmaster-General (Senator Ashley), by leave, made a statement on the events which culminated in war being declared by Australia on Finland, Hungary, Rumania and Japan, and laid on the Table the following Papers, viz. :— ,

Declaration of existence of state of war with Finland, Hungary, Rumania and Japan— Documents relating to procedure of His Majesty’s Government in the Commonwealth of Australia. The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings) moved—That the Papers be printed. On the motion of Senator McLeay the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
8. Declaration of War against Finland, Hungary, Rumania and J apan.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings), by leave, moved—That the Senate approves of the action of His Majesty’s Government in the Commonwealth in having advised the issue of proclamations declaring the existence of a state of war with Japan, Finland, Hungary and Rumania. Further, the Senate hereby pledges itself to take every step deemed necessary to defend this Commonwealth and its territories, to carry on hostilities in association with our Allies, and to achieve final victory over our enemies. .
And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator McLeay)— Question—put and passed.
9. Adjournment.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. '

The Senate adjourned at eight minutes to four p.m. till to-morrow at three p.m.
