Î. Meeting ok Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

3. Senator Sworn.—Allan Nieoll MacDonald, Senator for the State of Western Australia, made and subscribed the Oath of Allegiance at the Table, pursuant to the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act.
4. Leave of .Absence— Senator Clothier, by leave, moved—That, leave of absence for one month be granted to Senator Lamp on account of ill-health. Question—put and passed.
Senator James McLachlan, by leave, moved—That leave of absence for one month be granted to Senator Uppill on account of ill-health. Question—put and passed.

E stimates and B udget P apers 1941-42 (R evised).—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion by the Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane), viz.-—That the Papers be printed. Debate resumed. Distinguished Visitor.—The Deputy-President informed the Senate that Mr. Leslie Blackwell, K.C., M.C., a Member of the South African Parliament, was in the precincts of the Senate, and he proposed, with the concurrence of Honorable Senators, to invite him to take a seat in the Chamber. And Senators concurring, the distinguished visitor was admitted and took a seat on the floor of the Senate. Debate continued. On the motion of Senator James McLachlan the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting. 8. Adjournment.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane) moved—That the Senate do-now adjourn. Debate ensued. Motion, by leave, temporarily withdrawn. 9. War E xpenditure—J oint Committee.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 69. The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate the following Resolutions which were agreed to bv the House of Representatives this day :— (1) That Mr. Conelan and Mr. Lawson be discharged from attendance on the Joint Committee on War Expenditure. (2) That Mr. Morgan be appointed to serve on such Committee. (3) That the Senate be asked to appoint an additional Member of the Senate to serve on the Committee. (4) That the foregoing resolutions be communicated to the Senate by Message. W. M. Nairn, House of Representatives, , Speaker. Canberra, 12th November, 1941. . The Minister for the Interior (Senator Ceilings), by leave, moved— (1) That the Senate agrees to appoint an additional Member of the Senate to serve on the Joint Committee on War Expenditure, as requested by the House of Representatives. (2) That Senators Ashley and Clothier be discharged from attendance, and that Senators Arthur, Darcey and Lamp be appointed to serve, on such Committee. (3) That, the foregoing resolutions be communicated to the House of Representatives by Message. Question—put and passed. 10. Social Security·—J oint Committee.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 70. The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate the following Resolutions which were agreed to by the House of Representatives this day :— (1) That Mr. Barnard be the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Social Security in place of Mr. Perkins, resigned as Chairman. (2) That the foregoing resolution be communicated to the Senate by Message. W. M. Nairn, House of Representatives, . Speaker. Canberra, 12th November, 1941. The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings), by leave, moved— (1) That the Senate concurs in the appointment of Mr. Barnard as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Social Security in place of Mr. Perkins·, resigned as Chairman. (2) That Senator Keane be discharged from attendance, and that Senator Arnold be appointed to serve, on such Committee. (3) That the foregoing resolutions be communicated to the House of Representatives by Message. Question—put and passed. - N o . 40—12/A November, 1941. 131 11. P rofits—J oint Committee.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 71. The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate the following Resolutions which were agreed to by the House of Representatives this day :— (1) That Mr. Watkins be discharged from attendance on the Joint Committee on Profits. (2) That the Senate be asked to appoint an additional Member of the Senate to serve on the Committee. (3) That the foregoing resolutions be communicated to the Senate by Message. W. M. Nairn. The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings), by leave, moved— (1) That the Senate agrees to appoint an additional Member of the Senate to serve on the Joint Committee on Profits, as requested by the House'of Representatives. (2) That Senator Armstrong be discharged from attendance, and that Senators Courtice and Large be appointed to serve, on such Committee. (3) That the foregoing resolutions be communicated to the House of Representatives by Message. Question —put and passed. 12. R ural I ndustries—J oint Committee.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 72. The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate the following Resolutions which were agreed to by the House of Representatives this day :— (1) That Mr. Frost and Mr. Scully be discharged from attendance ou the Joint Committee on Rural Industries. (2) That Mr. Baker and Mr. Langtry be appointed to serve on such Committee. (3) That the foregoing resolutions be communicated to the Senate by Message. W. M. Nairn, House of Representatives, Speaker. Canberra, 12th November, 1941. 13. Adjournment.—The Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane) again moved—That the Senate-do now adjourn. Debate ensued.
