JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.

1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS.

3. Governor-General’s Message—Assent to Bills.—The following Message from His Excellency the Governor-General was presented, and the same was read by the President:— GOWRIE, ·

Proposed Laws intituled :— “ Supply Act (No. 3) 1941-42 ” “ Loan Act (No. 2) 1941 ” as finally passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth, having been presented to the Governor-General for the Royal Assent, His Excellency has, in the name and on behalf of His Majesty, assented to the said Laws.

4. The Late H onorable J. Mullan.—The President informed the Senate that he had received from Mrs. J. Mullan and family a letter of thanks for the resolution of sympathy and condolence passed by the Senate on the occasion of the death of former Senator the Honorable John Mullan.

P apers.—The following Papers were presented, pursuant to Statute— Canned Fruits Export Control Act—Fifteenth Annual Report of the Australian Canned Fruits Board, for the year 1940-41, together with statement by the Minister for Commerce ' regarding the operation of the Act. Commonwealth Bank Act—Treasurer’s Statement of Combined Accounts of the Commonwealth

Bank of Australia and Commonwealth Savings Bank at 30th June, 1941, certified to by the Auditor-General. Customs Act—Proclamation, dated 3rd October, 1941, prohibiting the exportation (except under certain conditions) of Timber, viz.—Logs, poles or piles ; Timber, dressed or

undressed ; Railway sleepers ; Veneers, rotary cut, but not including furniture veneers ; Plywood made from rotary cut veneers. Dairy Produce Export Control Act—Sixteenth Annual Report of the Australian Dairy Produce Board, for the year 1940-41, together with statement by the Minister for Commerce

regarding the operation of the Act. Judiciary Act—Rule of Court—Dated 9th October, 1941. Lands Acquisition Act—Land acquired at—

7. E stimates and Budget P apers, 1941-42 (Revised).—th e Minister for Trade and Customs (Senator Keane) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz. :— By Command— Revised Estimates of Receipts and Expenditure, and Revised Estimates of Expenditure for

Additions, New Works, Buildings, &c., for the year ending 30th June, 1942. The Budget 1941-42 (Revised)—Papers presented by the Honorable J. B. Chifley, 'M.P., in connexion with the revision of the Budget of 1941-42— and moved—That the Papers be printed.

On the mbtioh of Senator McLeay the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day-for the n'ext'dkyh'fhitting.

8. Next Meeting of the Senate.—The Minister for the Interior (Senator Collings) moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till Wednesday, 12th November next, at three p.m. Question—put and passed.

9. Adjournment.—The Minister for the Interior '(Senator Collings) 'movfed—That ‘the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at eighteen minutes past four p.m. till Wednesday, 12th-November next, at

three p.m.
