JOURNALS OF THE SENATE WEDNESDAY, 27 th AUGUST, 1941.

1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS.

3. Committee of Disputed Returns and Qualifications.—The President read and laid on the Table his Warrant appointing Senator Burford Sampson to be a member of the Committee of Disputed Returns and Qualifications, as follows :— Pursuant to Standing Order No. 38, 1 hereby appoint Senator Burford Sampson to be a member of “ The Committee of Disputed Returns and Qualifications ”, to fill the vacancy existing on the Committee.

4. Papers.—The following Paper was presented, by command of His Excellency the Governor-General— Nauru—Report to the Council of the League of Nations on the Administration of Nauru, during the year 1940.

5. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.

6. Next Meeting of the Senate.—The Minister for Supply and Development (Senator McLeay) moved— That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till to-morrow at two p.m. Question—put and passed.

7. Adjournment.—The Minister for Supply and Development (Senator McLeay) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at eleven minutes to ten p.m. till to-morrow at two p.m.

8. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Allan MacDonald (on leave) and Wilson.
