1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment;.
2. PRAYERS.

War Service Homes Act—Regulations—Statutory Rules 1941, No. 142.
4. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.
5. Ministerial Statement—Activities of the Department of Information.—The Minister for Information (Senator Foil), by leave, made a statement outlining the activities and functions of the Department of Information.
6. Deputy Leader of the Opposition.—The Leader of the Opposition (Senator Collings), by leave, informed the Senate that Senator R. V. Keane had been elected Deputy Leader of the Opposition.
7. Superphosphate—Manufacture and Sale in Australia—J oint Select Committee.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion by Senator Fraser, viz. :— (1) That a Joint Select Committee of the Parliament be appointed to inquire into and report upon all matters related to the manufacture and sale of superphosphate in Australia.
(2) That three members of the Senate and four members of the House of Representatives be appointed to serve on such Committee. (3) That the Committee be empowered to send for persons, papers and records, to move from place to place, and to sit during the adjournment of Parliament. (4) That a message be sent to the House of Representatives requesting its concurrence, and
asking that four members be appointed to serve on such Committee. Debate resumed. Question—put. The Senate divided—

8. National F itness Bill 1941.—Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. P resident, Message No. 58.
The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act relating to National Fitness ”, in which it desires the concurrence of the Senate. W. M. Nairn, House of Representatives, Speaker.
Canberra, 2nd July, 1941. Suspension of Standing and Sessional Orders.—The Minister for Supply and Development (Senator McLeay), pursuant to contingent notice, moved—That so much of the Standing and Sessional Orders be suspended as would prevent the Bill being passed through all its stages without delay.
Question—put and passed. On the motion of the Minister for Aircraft Production (Senator Leckie) the Bill was read a first time. Senator Leckie moved—That the Bill.be~now.read a secondvtj,me,* ........,,, ... â On the motion of Senator Collings the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.

9. Next Meeting of the Senate—The Minister for Supply and Development (Senator McLeay) moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till to-morrow at eleven a.m. Question—put and passed.
10. Adjournment.—The Minister for Supply and Development (Senator McLeay) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued.
Distinguished Visitor.—The President informed the Senate that the Honorable J. B. Sleeman, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, was in the precincts of the Senate, and he proposed, with the concurrence of Honorable Senators, to invite him to take a seat in the Chamber. And Senators concurring, the distinguished visitor was admitted and took a seat on the floor of the
Senate.
Debate continued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at eleven minutes past ten p.m. till to-morrow at eleven a.m. . ;
11. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Herbert Hays, Allan MacDonald, and Wilson.
