JOURNALS OF THE SENATE. THURSDAY, 29th MAY, 1941.
]. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. F irst F ederal Members’ Association.—The President informed the Senate that he had received a letter from the President and Secretary of the First Federal Members’ Association stating that, on 9th May last, its members had held a meeting to commemorate the Fortieth Anniversary of the initial meeting of the Federal Parliament, had unanimously passed the following Resolution, and requested that a copy be sent to the President of the Senate and to the Speaker of the House of Representatives :—
“ That we Members of the First Federal Parliament here assembled : 1. Affirm our loyalty to the principles of democracy, and our unshakeable belief in the Government of the people, by the people and for the people through a properly elected Parliam ent; 2. Declare our steadfast faith in the strength and value of the union of the Australian
people ; and 3. Express the firm conviction that additions to the powers exercisable by the Commonwealth Parliament are necessary in the National interest and for the future welfare of the people of Australia.”

N ext Meeting of the Sen a te.—The Postmaster-General (Senator McLeay) moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till Wednesday, 25th June .next, at three o’clock p.m., unless the President shall, prior to that date, by telegram or letter addressed to each Senator, fix an earlier day of meeting. Question—put and passed.
7. Adjou rnm en t.—The Postmaster-Genoral (Senator McLeay) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at twenty-eight minutes past four p.m. till 'Wednesday, 25th June next, at
three o’clock p.m., unless the President shall, prior to that date, by telegram or letter addressed to each Senator, fix an earlier day of meeting.
