JOURNALS OF THE SENATE
WEDNESDAY, 28th MAY, 1941.
1. Meeting of Senate.ยท—The Senate met at three p.m., in accordance with the terms of the Resolution of the Senate passed on 3rd April, 1941.
2. PRAYERS.
3. Governor-General’s Messages—Assent to Bills.—The following Messages from His Excellency the Governor-General were presented, and the same were read by the President1 :— GOWRIE, Governor-General. Message No. 9.
A Proposed Law intituled “ War Service Homes Act 1941 ”, as finally passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth, having been presented to the Governor- General for the Royal Assent, His Excellency has, in the name and on behalf of His Majesty, assented to the said Law.

Proposed Laws intituled :— “ Pay-roll Tax Assessment Act 1941 ’’ “ Pay-roll Tax Act 1941 ” “ Defence Act 1941 ” 11 Commonwealth Public Service Act 1941 ” “ Crimes Act 1941 ” “ Acts Interpretation Act 1941 ” as finally passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth, having been presented to the Governor-General for the Royal Assent, His Excellency has, in the name and on behalf of His Majesty, assented to the said Laws. 4. Death of Mr. J. L. P rice, M.P.—The Postmaster-General (Senator McLeay), by leave, moved—That the Senate expresses its deep regret at the death of Mr. John Lloyd Price, member of the House of Representatives for the Division of Boothby, places on record its appreciation of his meritorious public service, and tenders its sincere sympathy to his widow and family in their bereavement. And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator Collings), and
supported by Senators Macartney Abbott, James McLachlan, and A. J. McLachlan— And all Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed. . .

5. Death of the H onorable J. A. Boyd.—The Postmaster-General (Senator McLeay), by leave, moved-— That the Senate expresses its deep regret at the death of the Honorable James Arthur Boyd, former member of the House of Representatives for the Division of Henty and former State Minister, places on record its appreciation of his meritorious public service, and tenders its sincere sympathy to the members of his family in their bereavement. And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator Codings), and
supported by Senators Gibson and Leckie— 9
And all Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed.
6. Death of Mr. Alexander H ay.—The Postmaster-General (Senator McLeay), by leave, moved— That the Senate expresses its sincere regret at the death of Mr. Alexander Hay, former member of the House of Representatives for the Division of New England, places on record its appreciation of his meritorious public service, and tenders its sincere sympathy to the members of his family in their bereavement. And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator Codings), and
supported by Senator Cooper— And ad Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed.
7. Adjournment.—As a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased, the Senate adjourned at nineteen minutes past three p.m. till to-morrow at three p.m.
8. Attendance.—Present, ad the Members except Senators E. B. Johnston, Keane, and Wilson.
