W ED N ESD A Y , 12th MARCH, 1941.
1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., in accordance with the terms of the Resolution of the Senate passed on 13th December, 1940.
2. PRAYERS.
3. Death of Mr. D. S. J ackson.—The Postmaster-General (Senator McLeay), by leave, moved—That the Senate expresses its deep regret at the death of Mr. David Sydney Jackson, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Division of Bass, places on record its appreciation of his meritorious public service, and tenders its sincere sympathy to his widow in her bereavement. And the motion having been seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Senator Codings), and supported
by Senators Gibson, Lamp, Foil, and Herbert Hays— And all Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed.
4. Ministerial Statement—Re-arrangement of Ministerial Duties and Temporary Appointments to the War Cabinet.—The Postmaster-General (Senator McLeay), by leave, informed the Senate that, during the absence from Australia of the Right Honorable R. G. Menzies, the following re-arrangement of Ministerial duties, and temporary appointments to the War Cabinet, had been
m ade:— The Honorable A. W. Fadden to be Acting Prime Minister and Acting Minister for Defence Co-ordination. The Honorable T. J. Collins, in addition to the duties previously performed by him, to assist the Postmaster-General.
Senator the Honorable J. W. Lcckic, in addition to the duties previously performed by him, to assist the Minister for the Army. Senator Leek in also to represent the Minister for Social Services and Health in the Senate. During the absence of Mr. Menzies, the Minister for Commerce (the Right Honorable Sir Earle Page) and the Minister for Supply and Development and Minister for Munitions (Senator the Honorable P. A. M. McBride) to be members of the War Cabinet.
5. Governor-General’s Messages—Assent to B ills.—The following Messages from His Excellency the Governor-General were presented, and the same were read by the President:—

â¢6. The Late Colonel P. P. Abbott.—The President informed the Senate that he had received from Mrs. E. M. Abbott a letter of thanks and appreciation for the resolution of sympathy and condolence passed by the Senate on the occasion of the death of Colonel Percy Phipps Abbott, C.M.G., V.D.
7. Australian Labour P arty (Non-communist)—Statement.—Senator Amour, by leave, informed the Senate that the Members of the Australian Labour Party (Non-communist), of which he was Leader in the Senate, had rejoined the Australian Labour Party, and that they now acknowledged the Leader of the Opposition (Senator Golfings) as their Leader in the Senate.
