JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.

FRIDAY. 26 th NOVEMBER. 1920.

1. M eeting of Senate. —Tlie Senate met at twelve noon, pursuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS.

3. P apers.ยท—-The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz. :—

Pursuant to Statute— Defence Act, and Naval Defence Act.—Regulations.—Statutory Rules 1920, No. 222—No. 22.3.

I. P ublic Accounts Committee.—Senator J. D. Millen brought up the following Report from the Joint Committee of Public Accounts, viz. :—Interim Report upon Purchase of Saw mills and Timber Areas in Queensland.

5. Leave of Absence to Senators during Adjournment.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce), pursuant to notice, moved—That leave of absence be granted to every Member of the Senate from the determination of the Senate’s last sitting in the year 1920 to the date of its first sitting in the year 1921. Question—put and passed.

6. E stimates and Budget P apers 1920-21.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the year ending 30th June, 1921, and the Budget Papers 1920-21, laid on the Table of the Senate on the 16th September, 1920, be printed. Ordered—That the Order of the Day be discharged.

7. Basic W age : R eport of R oyal Commission (laid on the Table of the Senate on the 24tli November, 1920).—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) moved—That the Paper be printed. Debate ensued.

At one p.in. the sitting of the Senate was suspended till half-past two p.m.

Debate, interrupted by the suspension of the sitting, resumed. Question—put and nassed.

8. P a pers.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz.:— Pursuant to Statute— War Service Homes Act.—Land acquired in New South Wales at— Goulburn.

Greta. Marrickville. Tighes Hill. Weston.

9. N ext M eeting of Senate. — The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn until three p.m. on a day to be fixed by Mr. President, which day of meeting shall be notified by Mr. President to each Senator by telegram or letter. Question—put and passed.

10. A djournment.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed.

The Senate adjourned at two minutes to four p.m. till three p.m. on a day to be fixed by Mr. President, which day of meeting shall he notified by Mr. President to each Senator by telegram or letter.

11. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Duncan, Henderson, E. D. Millen (on leave), Pratten, and Thomas.
