1. M eeting of S enate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. P aper.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) laid on the Table the following Paper, viz. :—

Audit Act.—Transfers of amounts approved by the Governor-General in Council—Financial Year 1919-20—Dated 17th November, 1920.
4. Commonwealth E lectoral (W ar-tim e) R epeal B ill.—The Vice-President of the Executive Council (Senator Russell), according to Order, moved—That the Bill be now read a third time. Question—put and passed. Bill read a third time and passed.
5. L and T ax B ill.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce), according to Order, moved—That the Bill be now read a third time. Question—put and passed. Bill read a third time and passed.
6. P rinting Committee : S econd R eport.— Senator Adamson, pursuant to notice, moved— That the Report from the Printing Committee, presented to the Senate on the 18th November, 1920, be adopted. .
Question—put and passed.
7. Sugar P urchase B ill (N o. 2).— Message from the House of Representatives.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read

The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A BiU for an Act to amend the ‘ Sugar Purchase Act 1915-1920’,’’ with which it desires the concurrence of the Senate. E lliot J ohnson,

Suspension of Standing and Sessional Orders. —The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce), pursuant to contingent notice, moved—That so much of the Standing and Sessional Orders be suspended as would prevent the Bill being passed through all its stages without delay. Question—put and passed. Senator Pearce moved—That the Bill be now read a first time. Question—put and passed. Bill read a first time. Senator Pearce moved—That the Bill be now read a second time. On motion of Senator Duncan, the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.

8. A ppropriation B ill 1920-21.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question— That the Bill be now read a first time. Debate resumed.
At one p.m. the sitting of the Senate was suspended till half-past two p.m.
Debate, interrupted by the suspension of the sitting, resumed. Question—put and passed. Bill read a first time. Senator Pearce moved—That the Bill be now read a second time. On motion of Senator Elliott, the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
9. P apers.— The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz. Pursuant to Statute— Public Service Act— Regulations amended.—Statutory Rules 1920, No. 220.
Appointment of J. Lyng, Home and Territories Department.
10. A djournment.— The Senate adjourned at twenty-five minutes past three p.m. till Wednesday next, at three p.m.
11. Attendance.— Present, all the Members except Senators Bolton, Cox, Foil, Gardiner, J. F. Guthrie, E. D. Millen (on leave), Plain, Senior, Thomas, and Wilson.
