1. Meeting of S enate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. P aper.—The Vice-President of. the Executive Council (Senator Russell) laid on the Table the following Paper, viz.
Pursuant to Statute— Public Service Act.—Appointments of H. Morrell, J. Sutherland, F. Considine, R. A. Newton, and A. J. Allen, Department of Trade and Customs.
4. Questions.1 —Questions on notice were answered.
Ï. P ostponements.— Ordered— That Order of the Day No. 1, and Notice of Motion No. 2, Private Business, be postponed until Thursday next.
6. M ar Service H omes B ill.—Message from the House of Representatives.— The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— ·
Mr. P resident, - Message No. 44.
The House of Representatives returns to the Senate the Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act to amend the ‘ War Service Homes Act 1918-1919 and acquaints the Senate that it has agreed to the same with the amendments indicated by the annexed Schedule, with which it desires the concurrence of the Senate.

Debate, interrupted by the suspension of the sitting, resumed. Question—put and passed. Bill read a second time. The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into a Committee for the consideration of the Bill.
In the Committee.
Clauses 1-4 agreed to. Clause 5 debated and postponed. Clause 6 read— Senator Earle moved an amendment, viz., after line 28 insert the following new line :—“ Letters from
a registered Friendly Benefit Society bearing the official stamp of such Society ..*. Id. per £ oz.” Debate ensued. F.251.

Postponed clause 5 again read— On motion of Senator Russell, the following amendment was made, viz., lines 8-12, second column, leave out the words “ Provided that the minimum amount of postage payable on the aggreeate weight of newspapers so posted shall be One shilling.”
Clause 5, as amended, agreed to. Title agreed to. Bill to be reported with amendments.
The President resumed the Chair ; and Senator Bakhap, from the Committee, reported accordingly, Whereupon the Senate adopted such Report. Senator Russell moved—That the Bill be now read a third time. Question—put and passed.
Bill read a third time and passed.
9. A djoUhnment.—The Senate adjourned at fifteen minutes past eleven p.m. till to morrow at eleven a.m.
10. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Adamson (on leave), Crawford, Foil, Foster, Sir T. W. Glasgow, ll. S. Guthrie (on leave), Lynch (on leave), E. D. Millen, J. D. Milieu, Pearce, and Reid.
