JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.
THURSDAY, 9th SEPTEMBER, 1920.
1. M eeting of S enate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. P aper.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator E. D. Millen) laid on the Table the following Paper, viz. :— Pursuant to Statute—â Public Service Act.-—Appointment of G. D. Williams, Department of Trade and Customs.
4. P ublic W ores C ommittee.—Senator Newland brought up the following Report from the Parlia mentary Standing Committee on Public Works :—- .
Report, together with Minutes of Evidence, relating to Mobilization and Vehicle Stores, Midland Junction, Western Australia.
5. A djournment to D ebate M atter of U rgency.— Senator Elliott, in order to discuss a matter of urgent public importance, viz., “ The Report of the Royal Commission on the Northern Territory Administration ”, moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till half-past two o’clock p.m. to-morrow. Debate ensued. Motion, by leave, withdrawn.
6. P aper.—The President laid on the Table the following Paper, viz. :— Pursuant to Statute— Commonwealth Bank Act.—-Aggregate Balance-sheet of Commonwealth Bank of Australia at 30th June, 1920, together with Auditor-General’s Report thereon.
7. Questions.— Questions on notice were answered.
8. Northern T erritory R epresentation Bill.—The Vice-President of the Executive Council (Senator Russell), pursuant to notice, moved—-That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to provide for the representation of the Northern Territory in the Parliament of the Commonwealth. Debate ensued. ' Question—put and passed.
Bill presented and read a first time, and second reading made an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
9. Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Bill.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That the Bill be now read a second time. Debate resumed. Question—put and passed. Bill read a second time. The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into a Committee for the consideration of the Bill.

To report progress and ask leave to sit again.
The President resumed the Chair ; and Senator Bakhap, from the Committee, reported that the Committee had considered the Bill and had made progress, and asked leave to sit again. Ordered—That the Committee have leave to sit again to-morrow.
10. A djournment.—The Senate adjourned at eighteen minutes to six p.m. till to-morrow at eleven a.m.
11. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Adamson (on leave), Bolton, Foster, Gardiner, R. S. Guthrie (on leave), Lynch, J. D. Millen, Reid, and Thomas.
