JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.

WEDNESDAY, 1st SEPTEMBER, 1920.

1. M eeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., puisuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS.

;i. Mr. 0. Gavan Duff- i , Appreciation of Services.—The. Minister for Repatriation (Senator E. D. Milieu), by leave of the Senate, moved—That on the occasion of his retirement from the position of Clerk of the Senate, the Senate places on record its appreciation of the many and valuable services rendered to the Commonwealth Parliament by Mr. Charles Gavan Duffy, C.M.G., and

wishes him many years of happiness and prosperity. The motion having been supported by Senator Gardiner—- Question—put and passed unanimously. Ordered—That the President convey officially to Mr. Duffy the resolution agreed to by the Senate.

L Papers.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator E. D. Milieu) laid on the Table the following Paper, viz. :— By Command— Aerial Navigation—Convention for Regulation, signed at Paris, 13th October, 1919.

The Vice-President of the Executive Council (Senator Russell) laid on the Table the following Paper, viz. :— By Com mand-North-Western Australia—-Report by Mr. G. Hobler, Engineer of Ways and Works,

Commonwealth Railways, on tour of inspection.

3. Question.—A question on notice was answered.

6. War Service Homes Bill.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator E. D. Milieu), according to Order, moved—That the Bill be now read a third time. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed.

Bill read a third time and passed.

7. Industrial Peace Bill.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That the Bill be now read a second time. Debate resumed. Ordered—That the debate be adjourned till to-morrow, and that the Vice-President of the Executive

Council (Senator Russell) have leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.

8. Adjournment.—The Senate adjourned at twenty-six minutes past six p.m. till to-morrow at three p.m.

9. Attendance .—Present, all the Members except Senators Adamson (on leave), Cox, Foster, J. F. Guthrie, R. S. Guthrie (on leave), and Lynch.
