1. M f.rtino of S enate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

3. P apers.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz.

4. Message from the House of Representatives.—War Gratuity Bill.—The following Message from the House of Representatives was received and read :— Mr. President, Message No. 2.
. The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an Act relating to the Payment of the War Gratuity,” with which it desires the concurrence of the Senate.

5. W ar G ratuity B ill.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) moved—That the Bill be now read a first time. Question·—put and passed. Bill read a first time, and second reading made an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
6. Adjournment to Debate Matter of Urgency.—Senator Pratten, in order to discuss a matter of urgent public importance, viz., “ The Wool Position,” moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till ten a.m. to-morrow. And, at the termination of thirty minutes, Senator Pratten not having concluded his speech— The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) moved—That so much of the Standing Orders be
suspended as limits the proposer of the motion to thirty minutes, and that he be allowed such time as is necessary to complete his speech. Question—put and passed, there being an absolute majority of the whole number of Senators present, and no dissentient voice. Senator Pratten continued his speech. Debate ensued. Motion, by leave, withdrawn.
7. P aper.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) laid on the Table the following Paper, viz. :— Pursuant to Statute— Defence Act.—Regulations amended.—Statutory Rules 1920, No. 45.
8. Australian I mperial Force Canteens F unds Bill.—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce), pursuant to leave granted on the 25th March, 1920, brought up a Bill for an Act to make provision for the administration and disposal of the funds of Australian Imperial Force Canteens, and for other purposes. Bill read a first time, and second reading made an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.
9. A djournment.—The Senate adjourned at three minutes to five p.m. till to-morrow at three p.m.
10. Attendance.—P resent, all the Members ex'cept Senators Barnes, Derricks, Guy (on leave), Lynch, Maughan, McDougall, Milieu, Mulcahy, and O’Keefe.
