1. M eeting of S enate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. P apers.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Milieu) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz.:— Pursuant to Statute— War Service Homes Act.—Land acquired for War Service Homes purposes at Bankstown,
New South Wales (two notifications).
The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz.:— Pursuant to Statute— Defence Act.—Regulations amended.—Statutory Rules 1920, No. 33—No. 34—No. 35. The Vice-President of the Executive Council (Senator Russell) laid on the Table the following
Papers, viz.:— By Command— Postmaster-General’s Departm ent: Ninth Annual Report, 1918-1919.
Pursuant to Statute— Excise Act.—Regulations amended.—Statutory Rules 1920, No. 32.
4. The L ate R ight H onorable Sir E dmund Barton.—The President informed the Senate that he had received from Lady Barton a letter expressing the gratitude of herself and family for the sympathy of the Senate in their bereavement.
5. Questions.— Questions on notice were answered.
6. Australian Soldiers’ R epatriation Bill.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Milieu), pursuant to notice, moved—That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to make provision for the Repatriation of Australian Soldiers and for other purposes. Question—put and passed.
7. Governor-General’s Opening Speech—Address-in -Reply.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That the following Address-in-Reply be agreed to :—

We, the Senate of the Commonwealth of Australia, in Parliament assembled, desire to express our loyalty to our Most Gracious Sovereign, and to thank Your Excellency for the Speech which you have been pleased to address to Parliament. Debate resumed.
At one p.m. the sitting of the Senate was suspended till half-past two p.m.
Debate, interrupted by the suspension of the sitting, resumed. On motion of Senator de Largie the debate was adjourned. Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting. F.251.

8. Adjournment.ยท—The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed.
The Senate adjourned at sixteen minutes past three p.m. till Wednesday next at three p.m.
9. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Barker, Bolton, Ferricks, Gardiner, Grant, Guy (on leave), McDougall, Mulcahy, Needham, O’Loghlin, and Thomas.
