3. Suspension of Standing Order No. 68.—The Acting Minister for" Defence (Senator. Russell) moved—That Standing Order No. 68 be suspended for the remainder of the Session. Question—put and resolved in the affirmative by an absolute majority of the Senate.

4. P apers.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell) laid on the Table the following Papers, , viz. :—

5. Adjournment to D ebate Matter of Urgency.—Senator Gardiner, in order to discuss a matter of urgent public importance, viz., “ Industrial trouble likely to arise in connexion with shipping matters,” moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till 10 a.m. on Friday next. . Debate ensued. '

At one p.ra. the sitting of the Senate was suspended till half-past two p.m.

The House of Representatives transmits to the Senate a Bill intituled “ A Bill for an 'Act to ratify an Agreement for the Variation of the Agreement for the Surrender and Acceptance of the Northern Territory, and to amend the ‘ Northern Territory Acceptance Act 1910 with which it desires the concurrence of the Senate. .
