1. M eeting of S enate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS. .
3. T he Late H onorable Alfred D eakin.—The President informed the Senate that he had received from Miss Deakin a letter expressing the gratitude of her mother and family for the generous words said in the Senate in regard to her father. . . .
4. Papers.—The President laid on the Table the following Paper, viz.:— Auditor-General—Special Report on Amendment of the Audit Act and Position and Status of the Auditor-General. . '
The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell) laid on the Table the following Paper, viz. :— Pursuant to Statute— .
Arbitration (Public Service) Act 1911.— Award, dated 23rd September, 1919, of Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration, and other documents, in â . connexion with plaint submitted by the Commonwealth Engine-Drivers and Firemeii’s· , Association of Australia. · '
5. Adjournment to Debate Matter of Urgency.—Senator Derricks, in order to discuss a matter of urgent public importance, viz., “ The Administration of the Northern Territory,” moved—That ithe Senate, at its rising, adjourn till to-morrow at 9 a.m. Debate ensued. ,

8. N auru I sland Agreement Bill.—The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into a'Committee-for the further consideration of the Bill.

Postponed clause 3 further considered. Senator Gardiner "moved an amendment, viz., at end of clause add— · “ 1(a) In any agreement entered into the interests of the natives shall be considered and1 full justice done to them.” -

The President resumed the Chair ; and Senator Shannon, from the Committee, reported accordingly.. Whereupon the Senate adopted such Report.
9. Suspension of Standing and S essional Orders.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator- Russell), .pursuant to -contingent notice, moved—That so .much of the Standing and Sessional Orders be suspended as would prevent the -Nauru Island Agreement Bill being passed through its remaining stages without delay. Question—put and passed. "
