JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.

1. M eeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS.

3. T he Late Honorable .Alfred D f.akin.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), by leave of the Senate, moved—That the Senate place upon record its profound sorrow at the death of Mr. Alfred Deakin, its appreciation of his lifelong devotion to duty and his great public services, and its sincere sympathy with his widow and family. " And the motion having been seconded by Senator Gardiner, and supported by Senator Keating—-

And all Senators present having risen, in silence— Question—passed unanimously. '

4. Adjournment.—As a mark of respect to the late Mr. Deakin, the Senate then adjourned, at twelve minutes past three p.m., till to-morrow at three p.m. .

5. A ttendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Barker, Foil, Guy (on leave), Millen, Newland, Pearce (on leave), and Plain. .
