4. Questions.— Questions on notice were answered. x

5. Government Business : P recedence.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), pursuant to notice, moved—-That during the remainder of the present session, Government Business, unless otherwise ordered, take precedence of all other business on the Notice Paper, except questions and formal motions. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed.

6. Treaty RB Protection of France against Germany.— Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That this Senate approves the Treaty made a t Versailles on the 28th .June, 1919, between His Majesty the King and the President of the French Republic whereby, in case the stipulations relating to the left bank of the Rhine, contained in the Treaty of Peace

with Germany signed a t Versailles the 28th day of June, 1919, by the British Empire, the French Republic and the United States of America, among other Powers, may not at first provide ' adequate security and protection to France, Great Britain agrees to come immediately to her assistance in the event of any unprovoked movement of aggression against her being made by

Germany. Debate resumed. Question— put and passed.

7. Nauru I sland Agreement Bill.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), according to Order, moved—T hat the Bill be now read a second time. Debate ensued.

A t half-past six p.m. the sitting of the Senate was suspended till eight p.m.

Debate, interrupted by the suspension of the sitting, resumed. Question—put. ' ■ F.6282

The President resumed the Chair ; and Senator Shannon, from the Committee, reported., th a t jtlie Committee had considered the Bill and had made progress, and asked leave to sit again. Ordered—T hat the Committee have leave··to sit againi to-morrow. .

8. A djouknmknt .— The Acting M inister for Defence (Senator Russell) moved—That the.Senate do now adjourn. "Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. .
