1. M eeting of S enate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS. .

3. P rinting Committee : F ourth R eport.—Senator Barker brought up the following Report from the Printing Committee :— Fourth R eport.

The Printing Committee have the honour to report that they have met in Conference with the Printing Committee of the House of Representatives. The Joint Committee, having considered the Papers presented to Parliament since the last meeting of the Committee, recommend that the following be printed :—

Blythe River Iron Deposits—Reports of Experts, &c. Commonwealth Bank Act—Aggregate Balance-sheet at 30th June, 1919 ; with Auditor- General’s Report thereon. Commonwealth Inscribed Stock Act—Dealings and Transactions during the year ended 30th

June, 1918. Peace Treaty—Protocol supplementary to. Shaw Wireless Works, Randwick—Correspondence between ex-Senator Long and the Acting Prime Minister respecting question of further inquiry into purchase of.

4. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.

5. Supply Bill (No. 2) 1919-20.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question —That the Bill be now read a first time. Debate "resumed. ·'

At half-past six p.m. the sitting of the Senate was suspended till eight p.m.

Sitting, interrupted by the suspension, resumed.

6. P ostponement.—Ordered—That the consideration of Private Business be postponed until after Government Business, Order of the Day No. 1, has been dealt with.

7. Supply Bill (N o. 2) 1919-20.—Order of the Day again read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That the Bill be now read a first time. Debate resumed. Question—put and passed. Bill read a first time.

8. Suspension of Standing and S essional Orders.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Millen), moved—That so much of the Standing and Sessional Orders be suspended as would prevent the Supply Bill (No. 2) 1919-20 being passed through its remaining stages without delay. Question—put and passed, there being an absolute majority of the whole number of Senators present,

and no dissentient voice. ·

9. S upply B ill (No. 2) 1919-20.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Millen) moved—That the ' Bill be now read a second time. Senator Gardiner moved an amendment, viz., leave out the word “ now,” and after “ time ” add “ on Wednesday, 24th September, in order to enable the Government to announce its policy in

connexion with the question of profiteering.” Debate ensued. Question—That the word proposed to be left out be left out—put The Senate divided—

The President resumed the Chair ; and Senator Shannon, from the Committee, reported accordingly Whereupon the Senate adopted such Report. The Minister for Repatriation moved—That the Bill be now read a third time. Question—put and passed. ” Bill read a third time and passed.

10. N ext Meeting of Senate.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Millen) moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till Wednesday next. Question—put and passed.

11 .adjournment.—The Senate adjourned at twenty minutes to four a.m. till Wednesday next at three p.m.

12. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Guy (on leave), Lynch, Maughan, Pearce, and Reid.
