4. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered.

5. P eace Treaty with Germany.—The M inister for R epatriation (Senator Millen), p ursuant to notice, moved—T h at this Senate approves of the T reaty of Peace between the Allied and Associated Powers and Germany signed a t Versailles on the 28th June, 1919. An extension of half-an-hour was granted to Senator Millen. On motion of Senator G ardiner the debate was adjourned. O rdered— T h at th e resumption of the debate be an O rder of th e Day for to-morrow.

6. Treaty r e P rotection of F rance against Germany.—The M inister for R epatriation (Senator M illen), p ursuant to notice, moved— T h at this Senate approves the T reaty made a t V ersailles on th e 28th June, 19 19, between H is M ajesty the K ing.and the P resident of the French Republic whereby, in case the stipulations relating to the left bank of the Rhine, contained in th e Treat}' of Peace with Germany signed a t Versailles the 28th day of June, 1919, by the B ritish Empire, the

French R epublic and the U nited States of America among other Powers, may not a t first provide adequate security and protection to France, G reat B ritain agrees to come imm ediately to her assistance in the event of any unprovoked movement of aggression against her being made by Germany. '

On motion of Senator G ardiner, the debate was adjourned. O rdered— T hat the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for to-morrow.

7. Message from the H ouse of -Representatives.—Supply Bill (N o. 2) 1919-20.— The following Message from the H ouse of R epresentatives was received and read :—

8. Supply B ill (No. 2) 1919— 20.— The M inister for R epatriation (Senator Millen) moved— T h a t the Bill be now read a first time. ·

D ebate ensued.

A t half-past six p.in. the sittin g of the Senate was suspended till eight p.m.

Debate, interrupted by the suspension of the sitting, resumed. A n extension of half-an-hour was granted to Senator Ferricks under S tanding O rder No. 407a. D ebate continued. On motion of Senator Newland, th e debate was adjourned. O rdered— T hat the resumption of th e debate be an O rder of the Day for to-morrow.

9. Adjournm ent.·—The Senate adjourned a t seventeen m inutes to eleven p.m. till to morrow a t three p.m.
