JOURNALS OF THE SENATE.

FRIDAY, 12th SEPTEMBER, 1919.

1. Meeting of S enate.—The Senate met at eleven a.m., pursuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS.

3. Questions.—Questions on notice were answered. _

4. P apers.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Mi lien) laid on the Table the following Papers, v i z . ·

Pursuant to Statute— Papua.—Ordinances of 1919— No. 7.—Criminal Code Amendment. No. 8.—Land. _

5. P ostponement.—Ordered—That Private Business, Notice of Motion No. 1, be postponed until Thursday, 13th November next.

6. Aliens R egistration B ill.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question— That the Bill be now read a second time. Debate resumed. Question—put and passed. Bill read a second time. '

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into a Committee for the consideration of the Bill.

In the Committee.

Clauses 1-4 agreed to. Clause 5 debated— To report progress and ask leave to sit again.

The President resumed the Chair ; and Senator Shannon, from the Committee, reported that the Committee had considered the Bill and had made progress, and asked leave to sit again. . Ordered—That the Committee have leave to sit again on the next day of sitting.

7. A djournment.—The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Millen) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. The Senate adjourned at one p.m. till Wednesday next at three p.m,

8. A ttendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Earle, Fairbairn, Guy (on leave), Keating, Lynch, and Pearce (on leave).
