5. P ostponement.—Ordered - That Private Business, Notice «of Motion No. 11, be postponed until Thursday, 21st August next.
6. Trade Marks Bill.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), according to Order, moved— ' That the Bill be now read a third time. Question—put and passed. ‘ ' Bill read a third time and passed. ;

7. Standing Orders Committee : F irst R eport.—The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into a Committee for the consideration of the First Report from the Standing Orders Committee, presented to the Senate on 1 Oth July, 1919, recommending the adoption of New Standing Order No. 416a.
In the Committee. .
On motion of Senator Givens, the Committee, after debate, agreed to the proposed Standing Order, which is as follows:— ' '
416a. Where a Session of Parliament has continued for more than fifteen months, . Standing Orders Nos. 133, 413, 414, *and 416 shall not apply to any subject or matter that has transpired or been dealt with more than six months previously. Resolution to be reported. . .
The President resumed the C hair; and Senator Shannon, from the Committee, reported that the Committee had considered the First Report from the Standing Orders Committee, together with . the proposed New Standing Order No. 416a, and had agreed to the same. Ordered—That the consideration of the Report be an Order of the Bay for the next day of sitting.
8. L ighthouses Bill.—The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into a Committee for the further consideration of the Bill. · '
In the Committee.
Consideration resumed of clause 2 and the amendment moved thereon, viz., lines 11 and 12, leave out “ or the master, owner, agents and charterers of any ship which”. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. . On motion of the Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell) the following amendment was
made, viz., lines 11-14, leave out all words from and including “ Any person ” to and including “ reinstating the lighthouse or marine mark ”, and insert— ‘
“ If any lighthouse or marine mark is damaged or destroyed by any person or ship, the person, or the master, owner, agent, or charterer of the ship, as the case may be, shall be liable to pay to the Commonwealth the cost of repairing or replacing the lighthouse or marine mark, unless he proves that the damage or destruction of the lighthouse or marine mark was not caused through wilfulness, negligence, misconduct, or want of skill.” Clause 2, as amended, agreed to. ·
Title agreed to. Bill to be reported with an amendment. .
The President resumed the Chair ; and Senator Shannon, from the Committee, reported accordingly. Ordered—That the Bill, as reported, be considered to-morrow.
9. MFnisterial Statement : Statement re Official B usiness and P roposed Work for the Session.— Order of the Day read for the resumption of the debate on the Question—That the Paper be printed. â
Debate resumed.
At half-past six p.m. the sitting of the Senate was suspended till eight p.m.
Debate, interrupted by the suspension of the sitting, resumed. Question—put and passed.
10. N ext Meeting of S enate.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell) moved—That the Senate, at its rising, adjourn till three p.m. on Wednesday next. Question—put and passed.
11. Adjournment.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell) moved—That the Senate do now adjourn. Debate ensued. ·

The Senate adjourned at eighteen minutes past ten. p.m. till Wednesday next at three p.m.
12. Attendance.—Present, all the Members except Senators Crawford (on leave), Gardiner, Grant, Guy (on leave), Lynch, Lieut.-Col. O’Loghlin, Pearce (on leave), and Thomas.
